We’re recruiting a Construction Materials Buyer to join our procurement department. Based at our head office in Cheam, Surrey, you will join a fast-paced, well-organised working environment.

To be considered for the role you must have:

  • Previous experience in procurement within the Construction industry, preferably in Groundworks
  • The ability to read and understand construction drawings is desirable 
  • Strong IT skills including knowledge of Excel & Word
  • Knowledge of Red Sky is a plus
  • A good track record of building and maintaining relationships with internal teams and the supply chain
  • Strong coordination, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • The ability to work to a budget and mitigate unnecessary costs
  • The ability to have a flexible working approach 
  • A confident worker when put under pressure
  • A can-do attitude 
  • A team player

Key responsibilities include:

  • To manage and support the procurement team of the day to day material requirements as requisitioned by the site teams
  • Negotiate market leading rates for Bulk Materials (Readymix Concrete, Reinforcement, Muckaway, Aggregates etc.)
  • Support / Implement Supply Chain Strategies
  • Identify opportunities to enhance value and reduce cost and effectively implement such opportunities
  • Support the tender bid team by obtaining, analysing and comparing tender returns
  • Maintain the company based Procurement System
  • Checking and approving of Material Invoices
  • Communicate and liaise verbally and in writing between colleagues /suppliers/visitors and interpret and respond clearly and effectively to spoken requests over the phone or in person, and to verbal or written instructions
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and site teams
  • Maintain regular consistent professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health & safety procedures.
